Relaxed fish-focused eatery. Laid-back, family-owned seafood shack serving up fish dishes & Southern sides to diners in booths.
"First time here December 27,2025 and will definitely be back! It was a great welcoming atmosphere, and Every one was friendly. Decent sized menu, lots of options! We started with a couple of appetizers(gator tail and Trent’s Famous Shrimp dip). There was a side of ranch and another sauce for dipping the gator tail in. Trent’s dip was cold and served with crackers. Both decent sized portions for the price. For the main dish’s my wife and I ordered Trent’s platter with collards and fries. The collards were delicious and flavorful, the platter was fresh. Only complaint was with the deviled crab( stuffed crab I’m assuming) that was the only thing that was “spoiled”. My wife tried it first then I took a bite as well to confirm her suspicions. We addressed it with the waitress and she notified the back of the house and that’s far as that went. My meal was the Pasta and scallops with a baked potato. The pasta was amazing, seasoned well and nice portion. No need to get the FOR 2 because the portions are nice size for one person. Decent selection of beers and non alcoholic beverages. Overall 8 out of 10 because of the deviled crab seemed spoiled. Definitely a hidden gem, we Will be back!"
"If I had to name the best seafood in Jacksonville, it would be J.L. Trent’s Seafood & Grill, and that’s saying something in a city that knows its seafood. This was my first visit, but it absolutely won’t be my last. From the moment we sat down, our server Michael was outstanding. He was attentive without hovering, friendly, and clearly proud of the food and the restaurant. That kind of service makes a real difference, and he nailed it. Both my wife and I ordered the flounder, and it was excellent. Perfectly cooked, fresh, and full of flavor. After seeing other dishes come out of the kitchen, I’m convinced you really can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. Everything looked amazing. What really sets this place apart is its history and authenticity. J.L. Trent’s has been a Jacksonville staple for decades, known for serving fresh, straightforward seafood without gimmicks. It’s a true local favorite for a reason, and you can feel that the second you walk in. If you’re reading this review and wondering whether it’s worth stopping by, stop wondering and just go. Sit down, order confidently, and enjoy a great meal. You can thank me later."
"Food was great! Portion sizes are fair for the price. The food was seasoned well and delicious! We got the gator tail and Trent's platter for 2 and brought home leftovers. Everything was delicious, but they don't have real scallops on the platter- still good though! Service was good. Hannah took care of us without being overbearing. Overall recommend this place"
